Microsoft encourage surfers to abandon IE6

Microsoft have gone so far as to actively encourage web surfers to abandon one of their own products.

It’s not often a company will take this stance but due to the age of the Internet Explorer 6 browser and the many documented compatibility and security flaws, Microsoft have taken the unusual step of encouraging their users to upgrade the defunct piece of software.

The ie6countdown website is dedicated to watching Internet Explorer 6 usage drop to less than 1% worldwide, so more websites can choose to drop support for Internet Explorer 6, saving hours of work for web developers.
