New mail-box over quota warnings

Posted on

We have just implemented a feature that will automatically email our hosting customers if their email box is becoming close to its maximum capacity. This will ensure that you can login to clear out any unnecessary emails before your mailbox gets full up.

Standard mailboxes have a fixed size of 400MB and cannot be increased, you can upgrade mailboxes to our Premium mailbox via your WebMe control panel, this gives you 1GB of online storage.

The reason we limit storage space in our mailboxes is because POP3 mailboxes are not designed to be a long term mail storage system but a temporary store until the user downloads email from the mailbox to their computer. Mailboxes often become corrupted if they become too large.

There are many POP3 email clients available, a quick search of the web will reveal these.

Our standard mailbox size is still generous:

Web Host
Standard mail box limit
WebMe 400MB
Fasthosts 20MB
WebFusion 100MB

We want to make sure all WebMe customers can continue to manage their large attachments without having to constantly worry about deleting old emails. As someone who never likes to delete an Email, 400MB is great news!
However if you do get near to your capacity you can now be assured that we’ll let you know without just cutting you off like other hosts do.
